Local products with outstanding design will be displayed at this year’s Design Korea, to be held from Nov. 9, with an aim to foster the new wave of K-design, the ministry of trade, industry and energy said Wednesday.

At the five-day event, goods made by some 300 Korean companies will be exhibited to offer a glimpse of the future lifestyle.

Displayed goods will be divided into five themes -- home and living, furniture and interior, clothes and fashion, leisure and health, stationery and toys -- at Kintex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

“Co-existence of different cultures in the 21st century creates new value and innovation. Design is part of a nation’s soft power, and it is essential to create social capital,” said event organizer Korea Institute of Design Promotion.

“We hope to ignite another wave of hallyu through outstanding local designs,” the organizer added.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, it is seeking to open business opportunities for Korean companies and designers on the global market through the international design festival.

The event will offer various opportunities for participants to try their hands at making daily necessities, interior decorations, eco-bags and more, free of charge.

Renowned award-winning designs will also be exhibited to allow participants to examine the global design trend.

Lectures will be given by Alberto Alessi, CEO of Italy-based kitchen and home appliance brand Alessi, who is scheduled to speak at the Herald Design Forum 2016, along with Bab Baxley, product designer for Apple and Yahoo.
