Samsung Engineering-led group wins $800 mn plant order

Samsung Engineering Co., the plant engineering unit of South Korea's top conglomerate Samsung Group, said Friday its consortium has a received a US$800 million order to build a petrochemical plant in the United States.

Under the deal, Samsung Engineering will get $430 million for design and procurement, while its consortium partner Chicago Bridge & Iron Company will be in charge of the construction estimated at $370 million.

The project, launched by the U.S. subsidiary of Lotte Chemical Co., involves building a petrochemical plant in Louisiana that can produce 700,000 tons of ethylene glycol annually.

The consortium plans to finish the project by 2018.

Earlier this week, Samsung Engineering said it aims to rake in sales of 7.1 trillion won ($5.98 billion) in 2016 along with an operating profit of 228 billion won.

During the third quarter alone, Samsung Engineering logged an operating loss of 1.5 trillion won amid slumping plant orders. (Yonhap)
