미국을 방문 중인 박근혜 대통령이 8일(현지시간) 워싱턴 미 의회 상하원 합동회의에서 한 영어연설이 온라인에서 좋은 반응을 얻고 있다.

많은 웹 유저들이 자신의 마이크로블로그를 통해 박근혜 대통령의 영어 표현은 섬세하고 공식석상에서 사용하기에 알맞은 단어를 썼다고 표현했다.

한 트위터 유저는 본인의 계정에 “박근혜 대통령의 영어연설은 단문형식의 문장구성으로 의미전달과 이해가 잘 되었다. 듣기에 어색한 부분은 있지만 전반적으로 좋은 흐름으로 연설을 잘 한 것 같다” 라고 썼다.

박 대통령의 이번 연설은 이명박 전 대통령이 동일 장소에서 연설한 후 1년 6개월 만에 진행됐다. 이는 1945년 이후 미 의회에 연속으로 연설을 한 최초의 대통령이다. (코리아헤럴드)

Park’s English speech sparks online buzz

President Park Geun-hye’s English proficiency in her address to a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress Wednesday in Washington is getting positive responses on the Internet.

Web users posted a flurry of messages on microblogs that Park’s English was deliberate and that her choice of words were appropriate for use in a formal setting.

“President Park mainly used short sentences to make her speech easily understood. Although some parts of the speech seemed quite awkward, I think she had a nice flow overall,” wrote one Twitter user.

Park’s speech at the Capitol took place one year and six months after that of her predecessor Lee Myung-bak. It is the first time since 1945 for two consecutive presidents to speak at the U.S. Congress.
