리듬체조 요정 손연재(19•연세대)가 올해 처음으로 출전한 월드컵에서 값진 동메달을 목에 걸었다.

손연재는 7일(현지시간) 포르투갈 리스본에서 열린 국제체조연맹(FIG) 월드컵대회 개인 종목별 결선 볼 종목에서 17.400점을 획득, 마르가리타  마문(17.700점•러시아), 간나 리잣디노바(17.450점•우크라이나)에 이어 3위에 올랐다.

손연재가 월드컵 볼 종목에서 메달을 딴 것은 이번이 처음이다.

손연재는 리듬체조 최강 러시아를 필두로 동구 유럽에서 최고 기량을 자랑하는 선수들이 대거 출전한 이번 대회에서 메달을 목에 걸며 산뜻한 출발을 했다.

특히 루틴을 프랭크 시내트라의 ’마이웨이‘에 맞춰 바꾼 뒤 실전에서 처음 선보인 볼 종목에서 나온 메달이기에 더욱 값졌다.      

손연재는 앞서 열린 후프 결선에서 17.400점을 받아 3위  리잣디노바(17.600점)에게 0.200점 뒤진 4위에 머물렀다.

뒤이어 열린  리본 결선에서는 수구를 떨어뜨리는 실수를 여러 번 저질러 16.250 점으로 7위에 자리했다. 

손연재는 이번 대회 후 모스크바 인근 노보고르스크 훈련센터로 돌아가  담금질에 들어가고  이달 말  이탈리아 페사로에서 열리는 월드컵에 출전해 페이스를  끌어올릴 계획이다. (연합뉴스)

Rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae wins bronze in Lisbon

South Korean rhythmic gymnast Son Yeon-jae got off to a good start for the season by winning a bronze medal in the ball event at her first World Cup in Lisbon on Sunday.

On the second day of the event, the gymnast received 17.400 points in the ball program, ranking third following Russia’s Margarita Mamun (17.700 points) and Ukraine’s Ganna Rizatdinova (17.450 points).

Son also came in fourth in the hoop routine (17.400 points) and seventh in ribbon (16.250 points). 

Son’s accomplishment in ball routine was based on her new choreography and a new song, “My Way,” involving more difficult and elegant moves.

On Saturday, she finished ninth in the individual all-around competition with a total of 66.200 points. 

The rhythmic gymnast will now shift focus to her next World Cup competition taking place in Pesaro, Italy, at the end of April.
