Samsung Electronics said Thursday that it sold up to 20 million units of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S2 since releasing it in the global market last April.

Together with its previous model Galaxy S, the world’s IT behemoth said it sold more than 40 million units of its Galaxy smartphone series ahead of its launch of the next Galaxy S this year.

Equipped with the 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display and a dual core processor, the light-weight Galaxy S2 features a slim design, improved from its previous version, said Samsung officials.

“This indicates that about 20 million people around the world have been able to enjoy their smart lives through the Galaxy S2,” said a Samsung official. “We will further work to present products that could meet the expectations of our consumers.”

In a related effort, Samsung also said it is launching a limited edition model of the Galaxy S2 with well-known global cosmetic firm Bobbi Brown.

Packed with Bobbi Brown palettes and make-up service coupons, only 2,012 units of the pink-colored Bobbi Brown smartphone will be available, company officials said.

“We decided to cooperate with Bobbi Brown to satisfy our female consumers who put an emphasis on design to make their own styles, on top of the smartphone features,” a Samsung official said.

Those who wish to own the limited edition smartphone can go to offline stores or visit the site at www.howtolivesmart.com/galaxys2meetsbobbibrown from Feb. 24-March 9.
