Samsung Electronics reports 17 pct rise in Q4 net

SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest maker of computer memory chips, said Friday that its fourth-quarter earnings rose 17 percent from a year earlier, fueled by strong sales of smartphones.

Net profit amounted to 4 trillion won (US$3.56 billion) in the October-December period, compared with a net income of 3.42 trillion won the previous year, the company said in a regulatory filing.

The fourth-quarter figure was less than a median forecast of 4.37 trillion won from a survey by Yonhap Infomax, the financial news arm of Yonhap News Agency.

Sales expanded 13 percent to an all-time high of 47.3 trillion won in the fourth-quarter and operating profit jumped 75.8 percent on-year to a record 5.3 trillion won. The results are largely in line with Samsung's earnings guidance released earlier this month.

For all of 2011, the company logged a net income of 13.7 trillion won, down 15 percent from the previous year. Its sales rose 6.7 percent on-year to 165 trillion won and operating profit inched down 6.05 percent to 16.2 trillion won.

Analysts said Samsung's strong bottom line mainly stemmed from brisk sales of its smartphones and a one-off profit by selling its money-losing hard drive disk unit.

Market watchers said the trend of healthy earnings is likely to continue into the current quarter on the back of strong shipments of its flagship Galaxy lineup of products.

삼성전자 작년 매출 165조원..사상 최대

삼성전자가 작년 4분기에 매출 47조3천 억원, 영업이익 5조3천억원을 올려 분기 기준으로 사상 최고의 실적을 올렸다.

작년 연간 매출도 165조원으로 사상 최대였으며, 영업이익(16조2천500억원)도 역대 두번째로 많았다.

삼성전자는 27일 작년 4분기에 47조3천억원의 매출을 올리고 5조3천억원의 영업 이익을 달성했다고 공시했다.

분기 매출은 분기 기준 최대였던 2010년 4분기(41조8천700억원)를 훌쩍 뛰어넘 어 사상 최대를 기록했다.

삼성전자의 작년 매출 실적을 분기별로 보면 1분기 36조9천900억원, 2분기 39조 4천400억원, 3분기 41조2천700억원 등 하반기로 갈수록 늘어났던 것으로 나타났다.

작년 연간 매출액은 165조원으로 사상 최대였던 2010년(154조6천300억원)보다 10 조원 이상 늘었다.

부문별로는 반도체가 36조9천900억원, 디스플레이 29조2천400억원, 통신 55조5 천300억원, 디지털미디어 앤 어플라이언스 58조9천200억원 등이었다.

삼성전자가 작년 4분기에 거둔 영업이익도 사상 최대였다. 2010년 2분기에 올렸 던 5조100억원보다 2천800억원 많았다.

작년 1년동안 삼성전자의 영업이익은 16조2천500억원으로 16조원을 가뿐히 넘었 다. 그러나 2010년 17조3천억원에는 미치지 못했다.

이로써 삼성전자는 2010년에 이어 2년 연속으로 '매출 150조원-영업이익 15조원 '을 돌파했다.

삼성전자는 "어려운 경영 환경 속에서도 차별화된 기술·원가 경쟁력과 시장지 향적 마케팅 역량 등 핵심 경쟁력에 기반해 매출은 전년 대비 7% 성장하고 이익은 전년 대비 불과 6% 감소하는 등 차별화된 성과를 달성했다"고 말했다.

삼성전자는 작년에 시설투자로 반도체 13조원, 디스플레이 패널 6조4천억원 등 총 23조원을 집행했다. 올해는 25조원을 투자해 기존 사업경쟁력을 강화하고 신사업 기회를 선점해 나갈 계획이다.

올해 투자 내역을 세부적으로 보면 반도체 15조원, 디스플레이 패널 6조6천억원 이며 나머지는 R&D센터 건립 등에 투자된다.
