A grilled cheese sandwich is a classic quick meal in the United States. This version adds a Korean twist with kimchi. While grilled cheese sandwiches may be thought of as too plain, adding kimchi adds spicy flavor, blending tanginess with the gooey cheese and crispy bread, elevating the humble grilled cheese to a new level.

Ingredients:

  • Two slices of bread
  • 1/2 cup kimchi
  • 3/4 cup cheese (any cheese of your choice; gouda, cheddar or mozzarella recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions:

Place the cheese and kimchi on one slice of bread, and cover with the other slice of bread.

Melt 1 tablespoon of butter on a frying pan, and then place the sandwich in the pan.

On very low heat, grill both sides for 4 minutes each until the cheese melts and the outside of the bread turns crispy.

Tips:

Adjust the amount of kimchi and cheese to your taste.

If you don’t have butter, you can use mayonnaise instead.
