The global shipment of Ultra HD TV panels will take up 40 percent of the combined display market in 2016, data showed Thursday, with price cuts leading to a larger scope of consumers.

Global sales of UHD TV panels are projected at 67 million units in 2016, up 67 percent from this year's estimated 40 million units, according to the data compiled by industry tracker IHS.

"Demand for UHD panels has risen sharply, because they are suited for large screens. Consumers are also recognizing that higher pixel density provides a better, more intuitive viewing experience," IHS said in its report.

IHS added the increased shipment of UHD panels will lead to the price decline, making such high-end TVs more accessible to a wider scope of consumers around the globe.

In a separate report, IHS said Samsung Display Co. shipped 3.68 million units of UHD TV panels in the July-September period, compared with 1.26 million units shipped a year earlier.

LG Display followed suit by shipping 3.6 million units in the third quarter.

The global shipments of UHD TV panels reached 11.5 million units in the third quarter, breaching the 10-million mark for the first time and advancing 79.8 percent on-year. (Yonhap)
