LG Electronics Inc., South Korea's No. 2 smartphone maker, said Thursday it will start selling its latest mid-range model with a larger display and a stylus pen in the United States this week.

G Vista 2 is the follow-up model of G Vista in LG's budget phone lineup rolled out last year to target overseas markets. In South Korea, the same preceding handset is known as the LG Gx2, with the latest model yet to be released.

It comes with a 5.7-inch full HD display, bigger than the flagship G4's 5.5 inches in the same series. LG's most recent marquee model V10 also has a 5.7-inch screen.

G Vista 2 will be sold through AT&T, starting Friday, LG said, without specifying the price. Market watchers predict it will be about the same as its predecessor at $355.

LG's V10 will also begin hitting U.S. stores along with G Vista 2, a move to bolster sales in the world's biggest smartphone market, the company added.

LG Electronics stood as No. 3 smartphone seller in the North American region with a market share of 15 percent as of end-June, according to Strategy Analytics. (Yonhap)
