Ulsan’s expats are set to compete in a sports day Sunday, as the organizers hope to build on the return of the annual event last year.

Athletes will compete in soccer and other sports at the event, with teams representing their countries.

Ulsan International Volunteer Center, which hosts the event, said the competitors came from a variety of backgrounds, and include multicultural families, migrant workers, English teachers and foreign faculty and students from universities.

The UIVC Foreigners’ Sports Day was once a regular event, but was ended due to lack of funds until its return last year.

UIVC expects a bigger turnout for the event’s second year back, with 700 participants.

“We are hoping that the excitement will grow for this event so that next year there can be a spring and fall sports day for foreigners,” said Kevin Pope, foreign representative for the UIVC.

While soccer takes up most of the event’s activities, expats will also compete in tug-of-war. Children’s running events will take place before the awards ceremony.

Teams will represent the U.S., China, Indonesia, Nepal, Mongolia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, the U.K., Germany, Canada and Russia.

The event runs Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Munsu International Archery Stadium.
