Gwangju International Center is to run a tour down to Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, on July 26th for a day of salt-making and fun on the beach.

In the first part of the trip, participants will visit Jeungdo Island, known for its long history as Korea’s largest sea salt producer.

Sea salt has played a key role in the economic development of the region and continues to be an important ingredient in Korean food.

The tour will make a stop at the Salt Museum, where visitors will not only learn about the history and inner workings of the industry but will also engage in some hands-on salt making. They will be able to take home some of the salt they make.

After a lunch of baekhap soup, a dish made from fresh clams, the tour will end on the island’s Ujeon Beach, where participants are free to swim and enjoy the scenic view.

Visit gic.or.kr and register for the trip by July 20. Tickets are 45,000 won for GIC members, 55,000 won for nonmembers and 30,000 won for preschoolers. The price includes the costs of lunch, transportation and travel insurance.
