The Seoul International Women’s Association’s “Sunset Safari” charity gala this year kicked off with a splashy cocktail hour and, of course, all the fun, food and friendship that accompany the largest expatriate women’s organization’s annual charity event at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, on Saturday.

The throng of glittery cocktail gowns and black bowties were all the more impressive in that every aspect of the event was made possible through volunteers, as well as the uncanny organizational ability of SIWA executive officers. The gala included a raffle, a silent auction and opportunities to donate directly with the proceeds going to worthy South Korea-based charities.

Dancer and singer-songwriter Ma-Abena performed with the Barakan percussionist group, and Brazilian musician Valtinho Anastacio, while Olivia Lee and Adrien Lee MCed for the evening.

Some of the charities expected to benefit from the night of fundraising include Anna’s House, a homeless shelter that serves more than 500 people daily.

Other charities that will likely receive donations are Spring of Life, a women’s shelter on Jejudo Island, and Hae Ne Ri, a study room for children of low-income families.
