It may take several days before FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, informs South Korea of its disciplinary decision on a Korean player for his controversial post-match celebration at the London Olympics, an official here said Wednesday.

FIFA held a disciplinary meeting on Tuesday at its Zurich headquarters to revisit the case of Park Jong-woo. The 23-year-old midfielder came under the international spotlight in August in London, following his celebration of South Korea’s bronze medal with a banner that read, in Korean, “Dokdo Is Our Territory.”

The result of the meeting wasn’t immediately known. An official at the Korea Football Association said it will be a few more days until the finding reaches Seoul.

“We at the KFA will receive the result of the disciplinary meeting in writing,” the official said. “At this point, though, we don’t know exactly when we will get it.”

Once FIFA reaches a ruling, it will report the decision to the International Olympic Committee, which will refer to the FIFA ruling to decide whether to award Park his bronze medal.

If FIFA suspends Park for more than three matches or two months or fines him more than 17 million won, the KFA may appeal.

FIFA had been scheduled to hand down a disciplinary ruling on Park on Oct. 5 but postponed that decision.

FIFA had then said it would discuss Park’s case again the following week but has taken more than a month to put the issue back on the table.
