The Royal College of Art, a prestigious London-based art school, plans to offer design workshops for Korean students, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said Monday.

Two week-long courses will take place July 18-22 in Seoul and July 25-29 in Daegu.

These are the first events where students can directly learn from RCA professors here.

The curriculum borrows from the institution’s innovation design engineering program, the ministry said in a statement. The postgraduate courses are known for hands-on education based on group projects with global corporate partners such as Sony, P&G, Dyson and Bank of America.

Miles Pennington, head of the department, underlined the importance of the integration of design, science and engineering in his speech at the 2011 Convergence Design Conference on Monday in Seoul.

The ministry said it would “shore up convergence-prone industries as a growth engine and lay out related policies.”
