South Korea will hold a fashion show and set up a showroom in the United States during the upcoming New York Fashion Week in a bid to promote and introduce Korean designers overseas, officials said Tuesday.
The "Concept Korea: Cultural Treasures 2011" project, a government-led plan, is designed to expand global recognition of rising Korean designers and their fashion work through the influential event, said the officials.
In the fashion show slated for Feb. 15 at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, 40 professional models will display 40 pieces of four rising designers' collections, featuring the country's traditional color of indigo blue.
The four designers are Lee Sang-bong (Lee Sang Bong Paris), Suh Do-ho (DO HO), Steve J and Yoni P (Steve J & Yoni P) and Choi Bum-suk (General Idea).
Their works and clothes will also be exhibited in a showroom at Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking District, running for 10 days from Feb. 14, according to the officials.
The semi-annual New York Fashion Week is one of four major fashion weeks held in New York City and the world's first organized fashion week. It was first held in 1943.
