South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday to discuss the conflict in the Middle East, bilateral relations, and the protection of South Korean nationals, Seoul’s Foreign Ministry said.

Cho expressed concern over recent developments in the Middle East and said South Korea hoped for the restoration of sustainable peace and stability in the region.
He also reiterated Seoul’s position that the free and safe passage of all vessels, including South Korean ships, through the Strait of Hormuz should be guaranteed. Cho said South Korea has continued to participate in international efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of navigation in the strait.
Cho also asked Iran to pay close attention to the safety of South Korean nationals.
Araghchi explained Iran’s position on the current situation in the Middle East, according to the ministry.
The two ministers agreed to maintain communication on regional developments and issues concerning South Korea-Iran relations through bilateral and multilateral channels.
