Five Korean carmakers' sales fall 1.6% on weak overseas demand
South Korea's five carmakers said Friday their combined sales fell 1.6 percent on-year last month due mainly to weak demand from overseas markets. Renault Samsung Motors Corp., the South Korean unit of French carmaker Renault S.A., said Friday its August sales jumped 28 percent from a year earlier on increased exports. A record number of vehicles have already been recalled so far this year with 32 more cases still pending, the transport ministry said Thursday.A total of 1,382,490 cars were recalled as of Thursday involving 188 cases, according to the Ministry of Land, Transport and Infrastructure.
