An air show by South Korea's flight display team, the Black Eagles, will open the largest-ever Military World Games in the central South Korean city of Mungyeong, organizers said Thursday.

The 6th CISM World Games in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, will draw the largest number of athletes for a summer edition from a record 120 countries, the organizing committee said.

The estimated 8,000 participants will compete in 24 sports, up from 20 sports at the Brazilian CISM Games in 2011.

The Black Eagles will keep spectators entertained until the official start of the opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Then, South Korea's guards of honor will take center stage for a demonstration followed by a taekwondo demonstration by the South Korean special forces.

Athletes clad in their respective national military uniforms will enter the stadium, with South Korean President Park Geun-hye addressing them in an opening speech shortly thereafter.

The show will conclude with a soldier dance inspired by a Korean folk song.

The opening ceremony is produced by Han Jung-gu, who directed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1988 Seoul Olympics, and directed by Son Jin-chaek, who orchestrated the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 World Cup. (Yonhap)
