South Korea will host a group of diplomats from developing nations to help strengthen their diplomatic skills and improve their understanding of South Korea, organizers said Wednesday.

The Sejong Institute, a private security think tank near Seoul, said it will run the 72-day program starting Aug. 24 with the participation of one diplomat each from 22 countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The Partnership Program for Diplomats will be held at the Korea International Cooperation Agency, the country's state international aid agency.

"It will be the first time for our country to conduct such training for foreign diplomats for three months, and it is a meaningful project aimed at fostering pro-Korean diplomats in the long term," the institute said in a press release.

Training will be centered on strengthening the diplomats' professional skills and improving their understanding of South Korea through knowledge-sharing and hands-on experiences.

It will also be a means for the country to return the favors it received from the international community in the past, the institute said.

Among the participating nations are Vietnam, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Ghana and Colombia. (Yonhap)
