South Korea’s leading mobile carrier KT won an award at the 11th LTE World Summit, an annual conference for the Long-Term Evolution technology, Wednesday in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The mobile carrier earned the LTE Award for “Most Significant Development of a Commercial LTE Network,” which recognizes innovative LTE technologies of network operators.

The award ceremony was held on the sidelines of the LTE World Summit organized by Informa Telecoms & Media, a global information and communications technologies research institute.

KT, which won the same prize in 2012 for the first time among domestic mobile carriers, was the only Korean telecom company to win an award at this year’s conference.

An official from the firm said KT’s technologies including the GiGA LTE, which combines Wi-Fi and LTE to provide the world’s fastest mobile network speeds of 1.17 gigabits per second and 3CA LTE -- which aggregates three bandwidths -- were acknowledged by the judging panel for the award.

“KT will continue to develop customer-oriented technologies and provide innovative services,” said Park Jae-yoon, senior vice president of KT’s network technology unit.

He also pledged that the firm would take the lead in the development of LTE technology and play a leading role in the commercialization of the next-generation 5G network.
