Korean Air Lines Co., South Korea's largest flag carrier, said Tuesday that it will provide code-sharing flights with a major Brazilian airline company for the latter's domestic lines in the South American country.

Code-sharing flights allow one carrier to sell its tickets on the other's flights. It is aimed mostly at boosting revenue by increasing passenger seats and flight destinations without deploying its own airplanes.

Korean Air said that it will provide code-sharing flights with Gol Linhas Aereas Inteligentes starting June 11 for routes that link such cities as Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Manaus. It will share flight numbers of the Brazilian carrier to provide its seats for those routes.

Under the deal, Korean Air said that it will be able to offer its customers more convenient traveling schedules in which they can travel to more cities and areas in Brazil.

Korean Air currently provides flights from Incheon International Airport to Sao Paulo. (Yonhap)
