The latest credit card rolled out by Shinhan appeals to commuters with its daily discounts on public transportation costs.

The “B.big” card is the fifth offering in Shinhan Card’s Code9 series, targeted at working men and women in their 30s and 40s who commute to the office.

The focus of its discount benefits is on public transportation, offering fixed discounts of up to 600 won every day, or up to 18,000 a month on bus and subway fees. Users also receive a 10 percent discount on fees for taxis, airport limousines and KTX trains. The exact amount of the daily discounts differs according to the total amount purchased with the card in the previous month.

In addition to these discounts, the B.big card is notable for its design. It is the first card in the world to utilize the “quick read” format developed by VISA. This new format groups all important information ― card number, expiration date and security code ― in the upper right side of the front of the card, facilitating access to information necessary for online transactions.

The B.big card is loaded with additional benefits tailored to the consumer habits of its target demographic. Users can receive a discount on purchases made at convenience stores, cafes and department stores, as well as on cellphones and electricity bills.
