South Korea's administration minister plans to hold discussions with his counterparts from Southeast Asian countries later this week on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Korea commemorative summit, officials said Thursday.

Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs Chong Jong-sup will host roundtable talks to discuss issues such as innovation in public governance with public administration ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Friday in the country's southeastern port city of Busan, the government said.

Leaders from a group of 10 Southeast Asian countries are in Busan to attend a two-day special summit to be hosted by South Korean President Park Geun-hye, a meeting designed to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of their relations.

The three-session roundtable is expected to deal with government innovation, reform of the civil service and e-government, it added. Chong will present Seoul's experience on its innovative approach to improving public governance.

The discussions come as the concept of robust public governance has emerged as an important factor for sustainable development in developing countries.

"Many developing countries, including ASEAN members, have shown their interest in learning about South Korea's public administration system that pushed the social, economic and political development of the country within just half a century," the government said in a statement.

Adding to the discussions, an exhibition of content related to public administration will also be held between Thursday and Friday, the government said.

ASEAN comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. (Yonhap)
