Expat art magazine [b]racket is holding its second [b]-list show at Keimyung University in Daegu.

The exhibition opened Monday, but will have a formal launch Saturday at the gallery with a piece by performance artist Park Se-yong.

The show, the second of its kind, features work from expat and Korean artists on the theme of circumstantial identity, in media including sculpture, painting and video art.

“We wanted the theme to be a catalyst for artists, but we kept it broad to allow for interpretation,” said [b]racket founder Jess Hinshaw, explaining that this year’s exhibition differed from the inaugural [b]-list show in that it had been opened up to Korean artists.

“You can imagine how a native Korean would interpret that as opposed to a foreigner,” said Hinshaw. “We wanted to have people talk about themselves, and why they are who they are. Again, some artists attacked this idea very literally, while others thought of it more abstractly.”

The exhibition runs until Oct. 1 at Gukje Gallery on the university’s Daemyeong campus. Opening times are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday’s opening reception will run from 2-5 p.m. and coincides with the launch of the magazine’s 22nd issue.
