영국 일간지 데일리 텔레그래프에 따르면 미국 라스 베가스에는 숙취 환자들만 전문적으로 치료하는 의사가 있다.
마취과 의사인 제임스 버크 씨는 자체 개발한 약물로 어느 숙취 환자든 45분이면 치료가 가능하다고 주장한다. 약물의 구체적인 재료들에 대해선 공개를 거부했다.
원화로 10만원에서 24만원 상당의 치료비를 받고 있으며, 숙취가 너무 심해 병원으로 못 오는 환자들을 위해서는 집까지 찾아가는 방문 서비스를 제공한다. 이 경우에는 20만원의 추가 금액이 붙는다.
한편, 이런 서비스는 사회적으로 술 중독을 부추길 수 있다고 전문가들은 우려했다.
