北 호화판 스키장 1월 개장 할듯

북한이 강원도 원산에 건설 중인 마식령 스키장이 내년 1월 정식 개장해 자국민은 물론 해외관광객도 유치할 계획이라고 중국 언론이 북한 당국자의 말을 인용해 보도했다.

12일 중국 관영 통신사인 중국신문사에 따르면 '2013 중·조(북한) 경제무역문화관광박람회' 참석차 중국 단둥(丹東)을 방문한 북한 국가관광총국 김영일 부국장은 11일 "올해 초 착공해 건설 중인 마식령 스키장이 이미 기본적인 규모를 갖췄으며 11월 말 준공될 예정"이라며 "내년 1월에는 정식 운영을 시작해 국내외 관광객에개방될 것"이라고 밝혔다.

마식령 스키장은 김정은 국방위원회 제1위원장이 직접 지시해 건설되는 대형 놀이시설 사업으로, 북한은 세계적 규모의 스키장이 될 것이라고 홍보하고 있다.

김 부국장은 중국신문사와의 인터뷰에서 "우리가 말하는 세계적 수준이라는 것은 (스키를) 탈 줄 모르는 사람이 처음 배우는 것부터 시작해서 전문선수들이 경기할 수 있는, 경사각도가 미미한 곳에서부터 급한 곳에 이르기까지 다양한 요구 조건을 충히 만족시킬 수 있는 국제적인 시설"이라고 설명했다.

통신은 북한의 계획대로 내년 초 스키장이 개장하면 외국인의 북한 관광에서 중요한 오락프로그램이 될 것이며 겨울철 북한 관광에서 미흡한 부분을 메우게 될 것으로 전망했다.

김 부국장은 "(스키장이 들어서는) 원산지구의 관광 하부구조(기반시설) 건설에 선도적으로 투자한 외국인 투자자에 대해서는 이익권과 경영권을 주는 등 우대할 것"이라고 강조했다.

이에 앞서 영국 BBC방송과 미국 AP통신 등은 북한이 애초 마식령 스키장을 노동당 창건 기념일인 이달 10일까지 건설할 계획이었으나 공사가 지연돼 이 목표를 달성하지 못했다고 전했다.

북한은 스위스, 오스트리아, 이탈리아 등 외국 업체에서 리프트와 케이블카 등스키장 관련 설비에 대한 수입을 시도했지만, 해당국의 금수조치로 어려움을 겪은 것으로 알려졌다.

North Korea is set to complete construction of a lavish ski resort, touted as one of its young leader Kim Jong-un's pet projects, in late November and will formally open it next January, China's state media reported Saturday.

The Masik ski resort, located near the North's east coast city of Wonsan, has been under construction since earlier this year.

South Korea's spy agency told lawmakers this week that the North Korean regime has "wasted" US$300 million to build leisure and sports facilities, including the ski resort, despite chronic food shortages.

Kim Yong-il, a senior official at the North's General Bureau of Tourism, told the official China News Service that, "Basic facilities have been already set up at the Ski Resort on Masik Pass and construction will be completed in late November."

The Masik ski resort "will begin formal operations in January next year and be open to domestic and foreign tourists," the Chinese media quoted Kim as saying.

The North Korean official spoke to the Chinese media while visiting an annual trade fair between Pyongyang and Beijing in the Chinese border city of Dandong.

The North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who studied in Switzerland and is believed to have skied in the Alps, ordered for the ski resort to be completed by the end of this year.
