태화국제학교, 글로벌 엘리트 키우기 위한 영어 중심교육

최근 국제학교들이 주목을 받고 있다. 국제화 시대에 필요한 경쟁력을 키우기 위해 영어중심 교육환경을 찾는 학생들이 늘고 있기 때문이다.

경기도 용인시에 자리 잡은 태화 국제학교도 우수한 영어 교육환경으로 주목을 받고 있다. 특히 올해는 졸업예정자 8명 전원이 캘리포니아 주립대학 등 미국 명문대에 진학해 눈길을 끈다.

태화 국제학교는 지난 2006년 크리스천 정신을 바탕으로 한 글로벌 인재를 양성을 목표로 세워졌다. 커리큘럼은 미국 기독교 학교들의 교육 과정을 바탕으로 하고 있다.

설립자 박만용 이사장은 태화 국제학교는 기존 공립학교들과 달리 영어부터 미술과목까지 전 교과를 영어로만 수업하는 특징이 있다고 한다.

태화 국제학교에선 모든 학생들이 기숙사 생활을 통해 공동생활에 필요한 사회성을 기르도록 장려하고 있다. 또한 정기적으로 기독교 영성 훈련을 통해 학생들의 인성교육도 강화하고 있다.

박만용 이사장은 모든 학생들에게 특기적성교육도 강화해 "1인1운동, 1인1악기 교육 을 실시하고 있다" 며 "우리 학교의 목표는 세계를 위해 일한 엘리트 리더를 만드는 것"이라고 말했다.

Taehwa International School teaches all subjects in English to foster elites

International schools are booming in Korea as more parents and students seek education in English to face the competitive global environment.

Located in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, the Taehwa International School is one of the leading schools that is attracting a growing number of students with its strong English-learning environment.

Founded in 2006 with the aim of nurturing global leaders in the spirit of Christianity, the school adapted a Bible-based curriculum used for Christian schools in the U.S. and around the world.

The school is committed to providing an “all-English learning” environment, its founder and CEO Rev. Park Man-yong said.

Unlike traditional public schools here, all subjects from math to arts as well as extracurricular activities are all taught in English.

The CEO said that he also placed a great emphasis on students’ social skills. All students are advised to live in the residence hall as they can develop social skills from their communal living.

They also regularly participate in spiritual training that is designed for character development, he added.

Built on more than 90,000 square-meters, its abundant facilities include a gymnasium and swimming pool to provide a wide range of extracurricular classes.

“We advise students to take part in at least one sport and to play at least one musical instrument,” Rev. Park said, adding, “Our goal is to produce elite leaders who can contribute to the world’s development.”
