박지성(32)과 윤석영(23)은 2013-2014시즌 어느 팀의 유니폼을 입고 뛰게 될 것인가.
    
둘이 속해 있는 잉글랜드 프로축구 프리미어리그 퀸스파크 레인저스(QPR)가  다음 시즌 챔피언십(2부리그) 강등이 확정되면서 박지성과 윤석영의 다음 시즌 행보에 축구 팬들의 관심이 쏠리고 있다.
    
말레이시아 출신 사업가인 토니 페르난데스가 구단주를 맡고 있는 QPR은 이번 시즌을 앞두고 박지성을 영입했고 올해 1월에는 윤석영까지 데려가 한국 팬들과  좋은 인연을 맺는 듯했다.
   
하지만 '전통의 명문' 맨체스터 유나이티드를 떠나 QPR로 이적한 박지성의 출전 시간이 시즌이 진행될수록 급감했다. 심지어 주장 완장까지 시즌 중반을 넘기면서는 박지성의 팔을 완전히 떠나갔다.
   
또 윤석영은 입단 이후 한 경기도 출전하지 못하는 등 QPR은 한국 팬들에게  오히려 좋지 않은 이미지만 남긴 채 2부 리그로 밀려나게 됐다.
    
박지성은 2부로 강등된 QPR에 계속 남지 않을 가능성이 크다.
  
 최근 팀이 강등 위기에 몰린 상황에서도 해리 레드냅 QPR 감독으로부터 좀처럼 출전 기회를 얻지 못하는 등 팀내 입지가 좁아졌다.
    
게다가 팀이 하부리그로 강등되면 고액 연봉 선수들이 팀을 떠나는 경우가 흔하다.
    
다만 7월 QPR이 한국 프로축구 경남 FC와의 친선 경기에 박지성과 윤석영을  출전시키기로 약속했기 때문에 최소한 7월까지는 박지성과 윤석영 모두 QPR에 남을 전망이다.
    
최근 박지성의 다음 행선지로 외신에 거론된 곳은 미국과 호주, 중동 등 유럽을 벗어난 지역이 많다. 시즌 막판에 보여준 출전 시간이나 경기력으로는 프리미어리그 다른 팀의 러브콜을 받을 수 있을지 의문이기도 하다.
    
박지성이 QPR에 남을 것인지, 떠난다면 잉글랜드 무대와도 작별하고 새로운  리그에 진출하게 될지 등에 팬들의 관심이 집중되고 있다.
    
반면 윤석영은 다음 시즌에도 일단 QPR에 잔류할 것으로 보인다.
   
올해 1월 QPR에 입단한 윤석영은 아직 데뷔전을 치르지 못했다. 하지만 아직 젊은 선수기 때문에 챔피언십리그에서도 뛰면서 배울 부분이 적지 않을 것이라는 기대를 할 만하다.
    
해외 축구에 정통한 한 관계자의 말에 따르면 "아직 QPR에 입단한 지 반년도 채 되지 않았는데 팀이 2부 리그로 밀려났다고 해서 이적을 추진할 가능성은 크지 않을 것"이라고 설명했다. (연합뉴스)

Reading, QPR relegated from EPL after drawing

Reading and Queens Park Rangers became the first teams to be relegated from the English Premier League this season after they drew 0-0 on Sunday.

Both teams needed a win to keep a slim hope alive of overtaking 17th-place Aston Villa, but neither side managed to create many clear-cut chances in a game that featured little creativity or entertainment value.

QPR is leaving the topflight after two years, having stayed up on the last day of last season.

``Next year it will be very difficult to get promoted, there are some good teams,'' QPR manager Harry Redknapp said. ``For us to get promoted we have to come back in preseason and get super fit. The Championship is Saturday, midweek.

``It you are not fit enough you won't survive, you won't get out of that league. The players that are here have to work so hard and want to get super fit to compete next year.''

QPR have spent heavily since owner Tony Fernandes' takeover in 2011, and Redknapp is hopeful the Malaysian's investment will still be rewarded.

``I will get to see him this week and we will have some meetings and talk about things going forward, with the team with the players,'' Redknapp told Sky Sports TV. ``I have said many times they are good people, so I would love to see them get back in the Premier league and build a team that will stay there next time.''

Reading is making an instant return to the second tier.

``I have told the players to bottle up the feeling as it is never nice to get relegated, and make sure they never feel that way again,'' Nigel Adkins, who was hired as Reading manager last month, told the BBC. ``We must now build for the future and learn the lessons well from this season. We have to regroup and put ourselves in a position to challenge to get back into the Premier League. For any new promoted team, it is a challenge to stay up. The Premier League is a ruthless division.''

Wigan currently occupies the third spot in the relegation zone, and is two points from safety. (AP)
