The Educational Testing Service, the U.S.-based firm that administers TOEFL and TOEIC tests, announced Wednesday that it will award $72,000 to students in Korea through its annual TOEFL Scholarship program.

ETS will recognize and award 24 qualified students each with a $3,000 scholarship to fund their undergraduate or graduate study in Korea or overseas.

Candidates must submit their TOEFL test score to demonstrate their English proficiency. Additionally, undergraduate students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0-point scale and high school students must have a level of 1-3 on a 9-level scale in any three subjects in their last semester.

“ETS is committed to working with Korean students as they learn English, the global language of choice,” Walt MacDonald, ETS executive vice president and chief operating officer, said in a statement.

“Since the inception of our scholarship program in 2008, ETS has awarded $560,000 in scholarship funding to students in Korea as they continue to pursue their educational aspirations. We look forward to recognizing the 24 recipients of the 2013 TOEFL Scholarship Program later this year,” he added.

Student applications will be accepted until April 30 and recipients will be announced in May, the company said. For more information on the scholarship program, visit www.toeflgoanywhere.org/kr or call (02) 511-8677.
