미국의 톱 컨트리 가수 중 하나인 민디 맥크리디(37)가 17일 (현지시간) 숨진 채 발견되었다.
AP통신은 미국 아칸소 클레번 카운티 보안당국을 인용해 맥크리디가 이날 오후 총상한발을 입은 채 자택에서 발견되었다고 밝혔다. 당국은 그녀가 자살한 것으로 보고 있으며, 차후에 시신을 부검할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
담당 검시관 워렌 옴스테드는 현재 그녀의 두 아들을 누가 돌보고 있는지는 확인된 바 없다고 설명했다.
1996년에 데뷔한 맥크리디는 이 해 발표한 앨범 “만 명의 천사들 (Ten Thousand Angels)”이 2백만 장이나 팔리고, 이 앨범에 수록된 “남자들은 항상 그러지(Guys Do It All the Time)가 빌보드 컨트리 차트에서 1위를 차지하는 등 큰 인기를 누렸다.

Mindy McCready found dead in apparent suicide: report
U.S. singer Mindy McCready was found dead Sunday in what appears to be a suicide, according to U.S. news reports.
The body of the 37-year-old country singer was found by local deputies at her home in Arkansas, according to a news release from the Cleburne County Sheriff.
“Ms. McCready is deceased from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Sheriff Marty Moss said in an interview with USA Today newspaper.
Moss said his officers visited the singer’s residence around 3:38 p.m. and found McCready’s body on the porch.
Authorities said the case is under investigation, and McCready’s body will be transported to Arkansas State Crime Lab for autopsy.
The well-known singer, whose debut album “10,000 Angels” sold over 2 million copies in 1996, frequently made headlines over the past few years for alleged drug problems, custody battles for her son with her mother, and rumored affairs with former baseball star Roger Clemens.
