A British designer says his line of sarcastic tote bags for London residents annoyed by the Olympic Games is proving popular.

Toby Leigh said he took great care not to violate any Olympic copyrights when he created the totes, which are modeled on the London 2012 logo but do not contain the word “Olympics” or any associated symbols, The Sun reported Tuesday.

“You can‘t use the words London 2012 or the Olympic rings, but they can’t copyright the word London,” Leigh said. “The typeface isn‘t the same typeface either.”

The bag slogans include “They’re all on steroids,” “I‘m renting my flat to fat American family” and “It only took me three hours to get to work this morning.”

Leigh said sales have been so brisk the bags have temporarily sold out.(UPI)

영국 디자이너 토비 레이가 제작한 토트백이 인기다. 이 토트백들은 올림픽에 지친 런던 주민들을 대변해 올림픽을 비꼬고 나섰다.

가방 디자인은 “걔네 전부 스테로이드(근육 증강제) 맞았어(They’re all on steroids)”, "뚱땡이 미국인들한테 아파트를 빌려주게 됐어(I‘m renting my flat to fat American family)“ ”아침에 출근만 3시간이야(It only took me three hours to get to work this morning)“ 등 올림픽 경기로 인해 빚어진 런던 시민들의 불만을 담은 문구들이다.

토트백의 디자이너 토비 레이는 제작 과정에서 올림픽 저작권을 침해하지 않기 위해 부심했다고 밝혔다. ‘올림픽’이라는 단어나 관련 상징을 사용할 수 없기 때문이다.

“’런던 2012’라는 문구나 오륜마크도 사용할 수 없다. 그렇지만 ‘런던’이라는 단어에는 저작권이 걸려 있지 않다.” 그는 “가방에 사용된 서체도 다르다”고 말했다.

제작자는 이 빈정대는 가방들이 순식간에 매진됐다고 밝혔다.
