Democratic United Party floor leader Park Jie-won defied a second prosecutors’ summons Monday, further fueling discord between the main opposition party and the Public Prosecutors’ Office.

“I have not received money or requests for favors from any savings bank,” Park said at the DUP general meeting on Monday.

“If there is evidence, seek an indictment. I will appear in court and prove my innocence.”

The prosecutors initially had summoned Park to appear for questioning on July 19 over allegations that he received as much as 100 million won ($87,000) from the indicted Solomon Financial Group chairman Lim Suk in 2008.

In addition, the prosecutors investigating the savings bank scandal are said to have secured evidence that Park received around 30 million won each from Bohae Savings Bank CEO Oh Mun-cheol and former Bohae Brewery chief Lim Geon-wu in 2010 and 2011 to halt the Suwon prosecutors’ investigation into the suspended bank.

Park, denies all allegations and says the investigation into him is aimed at shaking the focus off other issues including alleged irregularities in President Lee Myung-bak’s campaign funds used in his run for presidency in 2007.

With Park defying the summons for the second time, the prosecutors are reviewing plans to bring him in forcibly, including filing for an arrest warrant.

As the authorities seek means to bring Park in for questioning, the DUP also stepped up the attack on the prosecutors.

The main opposition party announced plans for reforming the prosecution including the abolishment of the central investigation division and establishing a new department for investigating corrupt high-level officials.

The DUP also called on the authorities to look into alleged irregularities in the president’s campaign funds saying that leaving related allegations uninvestigated is making the prosecutors the subject of public ridicule.
