Hyundai Glovis Co., a local logistics service provider, signed a deal with U.S. defense contractor Boeing Co. on Thursday to help maintain the operational readiness of South Korea’s F-15K multirole fighters.

The performance-based logistics program calls for Hyundai Glovis to manage inventories of parts and components used by the planes and ensure timely delivery to military maintenance personnel so they can be kept combat ready.

Under the arrangement, Hyundai Glovis will receive payments for services depending on the performance of the F-15K Slam Eagles in the South Korean Air Force. It also gains access to two military depots where parts will be stored in the country.

“Hyundai Glovis plans to meet Boeing’s PBL contract by making full use of its know-how in the shipping of so-called knockdown automobile kits to overseas car assembly lines,” the company said.

“The latest deal will allow the company to expand its logistics operations to the military field.”

South Korea currently has 60 two-seater F-15Ks that are tasked with air superiority and precision bombing duties. The planes are derived from F-15E Strike Eagles in service with a handful of air forces around the world. (Yonhap News)
