The leading K-pop girl group Girls' Generation will be honored with postage stamps, the group's entertainment agency said Tuesday.

Korea Post will issue a set of postage stamps featuring the group early next month to mark its 5th anniversary, S.M. Entertainment said.

The group will be the first celebrities to be on stamps issued by Korea Post, it added.

The set is composed of 14 stamps, including nine featuring images of each member contained in their third full-length album titled "The Boys" and of their handwritten signatures, according to the agency.

The stamp set, which is priced at 20,000 won ($17), is scheduled to go on sale at some 50 postal offices across the country in early August.

"We expect the Girls' Generation stamps will greatly contribute to developing the culture of postal stamps and spreading the boom of Korean pop culture," Kim Tae-wan, an official at Korea Post, said.

The popularity of Korean culture, known as "hallyu" in Korean, meaning the Korean wave, has been strong mainly in other Asian nations, including Japan, China and Taiwan, but spread to Europe and North and South American countries last year. (Yonhap News)

그룹 소녀시대를 모델로 한 우표가 다음 달 초 발매된다.

소녀시대의 소속사 SM엔터테인먼트는 3일 "우정사업본부가 8월 초 소녀시대를 모델로 한 '소녀시대 나만의 우표'를 발매한다"면서 "이는 우정사업본부가 직접 계약•발행하는 첫 연예인 우표"라고 전했다.

'소녀시대 나만의 우표'는 소녀시대의 데뷔 5주년을 기념하는 세트 형태로 제작 된다. 소녀시대 정규 3집 '더 보이즈(The Boys)' 속 멤버별 이미지에 친필 사인을 더한 우표 9장, '지(Gee)' '오(Oh!)' 등 역대 앨범 재킷 이미지로 만든 우표 5장 등 총 14장으로 구성됐다. 가격은 2만원이다.

'소녀시대 나만의 우표'는 다음 달 초 전국 50여개 우체국을 통해 판매될 예정이며, 삼성동 코엑스에서 8월 9-13일 열리는 '대한민국 우표전시회'에도 출품될 예정이다. 

우정사업본부의 김태완 팀장은 "'소녀시대 우표'가 우표 문화 발전 및 한류 확산에 크게 기여할 것으로 기대한다"고 말했다.
