Egypt's ex-President Hosni Mubarak has been sentenced to life in prison after a court convicted him on charges of complicity in the killing of protesters during last year's uprising that forced him from power.
Mubarak is the first Arab leader to be tried by his own people in the country.
The sentence was handed down Saturday in a Cairo court.
Also given a life term for the killings was Mubarak's former interior minister Habib al-Adly, while six former police commanders were acquitted.
Meanwhile, corruption charges against Mubarak's sons, Alaa and Gamal, were dropped.

이집트 법원은 토요일 30년간 이집트를 철권 통치한 무바라크에 대해 종신형을 선고했다.
무바라크는 시민혁명이 발발한 지난해 1월25일부터 2월11일까지 열여드레 동안 시위대 강경 진압으로 840여명을 숨지게 하고 집권 기간 부정 축재한 혐의로 기소됐다.
지난해 중동을 휩쓴 `아랍의 봄'으로 축출된 국가 지도자 가운데 법정 선고를 받는 것은 무바라크가 처음이다. 30년간 이집트를 철권 통치한 무바라크는 시민혁명이 발발한 지난해 1월25일부터 2월11일까지 열여드레 동안 시위대 강경 진압으로 840여명을 숨지게 하고 집권 기간 부정 축재한 혐의로 기소됐다.
무바라크의 아들들은 무죄선고 되었다. 선고 이후 법정에서는 소란이 일어났다고 외신들은 보도했다.
