SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean tech behemoth Samsung Electronics Co. said Thursday it will take immediate legal action against an Australian court ruling that temporarily banned sales of its latest tablet computer.

"Every legal action and other measures will be taken to ensure that Samsung's latest innovative product can reach Australian consumers," a company executive told Yonhap News Agency.

The remarks came after the court imposed a temporary sales ban on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 after Apple Inc., which make iPads, accused Samsung of patent violations for its screen multi-touch features and so-called "heuristic" capabilities.

Multi-touch features allow the use of two fingers to increase or decrease the size of the tablet's screen, while heuristic capabilities anticipate how the user wants to turn the page on the display.

The executive, who did not elaborate on details of what measures will be taken, downplayed the significance of the latest ruling by pointing out that the unfavorable ruling was one of about 30 legal battles currently being waged in nine countries, mainly in North America and Europe.

Samsung claimed that Apple willfully infringed on its three-generation wireless technology and accused the U.S.-based company of "free-riding".

Legal experts here said that Samsung may take action to overturn the ruling, or to claim that Apple's patent claim is invalid.

The latest ruling, meanwhile, comes after Apple won legal battles in Germany and the Netherlands earlier in the year against its biggest competitor.
