RASKB hosts talk on multiculturalism
The Royal Asiatic Society Korea Branch will host a talk by junior Fulbright researcher Daisy Kim on the development of Korea’s multicultural society on Oct. 23. She will discuss South Korea’s move away from nation-building based on ethnic homogeneity and the way in which Korea has used multiculturalism to include and exclude different categories of migrants. Busan opens foreign workers’ support center
The Busan City government opened the Busan Foreign Workers Support Center on Oct. 10.The center provides consultation services, Korean education, and life adjustment education for foreign workers. It has a classroom with computers and other facilities and consultants speaking Chinese, Uzbek, Vietnamese and Tagalog. Volunteers to help out at St. Mary’s hospital
Yeoksam Global Village Center volunteers will visit St. Mary’s Hospital in Gangnam on Saturday. The group will help with the preparation of medical kits and cleaning hospital facilities, and spend time with young patients. Organizers are especially keen to have volunteers who can use music, magic, arts or other recreational activities to brighten the children’s day.The activity runs from 9:40 a.m. to noon and participation is limited to 20 people.
