12-year-old content creator looks to continue music career
Seo Eve, a 12-year-old content creator who rose to fame last year with her hit debut single “Malatanghulu,” is back with a third single. This time, she combines her unique charm with complex teenage emotions.
Her new song, “They Never Know,” is a remake of the theme song from the 1988 movie of the same name. The song conveys a child’s longing for genuine care and love from adults, rather than material gifts.
While retaining the playful and cheerful image of her previous works, Seo has made an effort to infuse the track with the loneliness and frustrations experienced by teenagers.
“As I’m starting middle school this year, I wanted to capture the feelings of a teenage girl. So I decided to remake this song. I also wanted to add a slightly more mature vibe compared to my earlier songs,” Seo explained.
Seo noted that “they” in “They Never Know” could refer to not only adults, but also bosses or teachers, making the song relatable for anyone who listens to it. “I believe this song will resonate with many people.”
Known for having choreographed her debut single “Malatanghulu” herself, Seo shared that she also created the dance for the new track. This time, she aimed to visually represent the wounds and struggles of kids her age.
“It took me about 20 minutes to come up with the choreography. I added a move where I tap my chest to convey frustration and gestures mimicking tears during the line ‘Adults don’t understand.’”
Reflecting on her unique appeal, Seo said, “I think my charm lies in being somehow annoying yet endearing, making people laugh despite themselves — a quality often described in Korean with the slang term ‘king-bat-da.’”
Asked about her future dreams, Seo shared her desire to study languages and expand her activities to new countries. “I love meeting new people and trying interesting foods during overseas promotions, but it’s frustrating when I can’t communicate my gratitude. Last year in Taiwan, I felt disappointed that I couldn’t fully express myself due to the language barrier,” she said.
Despite her young age, Seo has already released three singles and has no plans of slowing down. “I have many more songs in the works. I’ll continue to showcase my uniquely frustrating yet lovable charm, so I hope everyone will keep an eye on me!”
