One of the hottest and most influential hip-hop icons of today’s music scene, Kendrick Lamar will visit Korea in July for his first concert in the country.

The organizers of the Hyundai Card Super Concert on Tuesday announced that the concert would be held at 8 p.m. on July 30 at Jamsil Sports Complex.

With 12 Grammys under his belt, Lamar is one of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful rappers. He is noted for his storytelling abilities, with his lyrics touching on social issues like racism, black empowerment and social injustice.

In 2018, his album “Damn” became the first nonclassical, nonjazz album to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music.

“Kendrick Lamar is not only a musician standing on the peak of the hip-hop scene today, but is an artist that has changed the history of the genre itself,” said a Hyundai Card official.

Super Concert is an event held since 2007 that features top musicians. Past performers include Coldplay, Eminem, Lady Gaga and legends like Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Metallica.

Tickets for Lamar’s concert will be made available online at Interpark, starting at 12 p.m. on June 8. Standing areas are available at 110,000 won ($102), while seats are sold at 132,000 each. Hyundai card holders can get a 20 percent discount for up to two tickets per person, and can book their tickets a day earlier at 12 p.m., June 7.

Concert admission is open to those born before Jan. 1, 2000.
