Nuclear envoys of South Korea and the United States will meet this week to have "in-depth" talks on a wide range of issues, including North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, Seoul's foreign ministry said Friday.

The meeting will be held on Friday (local time) in Hawaii between Kim Hong-kyun, South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, and Sung Kim, the U.S.

special representative for North Korea policy, according to the ministry.

Sung Kim is staying on the island where vice foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan earlier wrapped up their meeting. Kim Hong-kyun is to leave for Hawaii later in the day.

"They will have in-depth talks on North Korea's nuclear and other issues as well as what was discussed during the vice foreign ministerial meeting," the ministry said.

The ministry added that talks will likely be focused, in particular, on how to respond to North Korea's provocations and ways to beef up sanctions and global cooperation against the North. (Yonhap)
