China expanded its share in the global TV market in the third quarter, narrowing the gap with No. 1 South Korea, industry data showed Thursday.
Beijing took up 27.2 percent of the global TV market in the July-September period, up 2.3 percentage points from a quarter earlier, the data compiled by industry tracker IHS showed.
In contrast, South Korea held 31.7 percent of the market, down 2.7 percentage points.
Japan, meanwhile, followed with 14.9 percent, trailed by the United States with 4 percent and Europe with 2.5 percent.
In the third quarter of 2014, South Korea took up 33.7 percent of the market, far outpacing China's 23.9 percent.
Industry watchers said tech players must make efforts to tap deeper into the organic light-emitting diode TV sector to garner a larger slice of the market.
The global OLED TV shipment came to 91,200 units in the third quarter, soaring from 16,900 units posted a year earlier, with industry watchers painting a rosy picture for the future as well.
By company, Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Co. took up 19.4 percent and 12.3 percent of the TV market in the third quarter, respectively.
The Chinese companies Hisense Co. and TCL Corp. accounted for 6.3 percent and 5.9 percent, respectively. (Yonhap)
