North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a newly completed nursing home in Pyongyang, stressing the solid implementation of the country's protective policy for the elderly, its official news agency reported Sunday.

"The home was successfully built to suit national character and flavor," Kim Jong-un said during the visit to the Pyongyang Home for the Aged, the North's Korean Central News Agency said in a report without disclosing the date of the visit, as is customary.

After touring the home's facilities, including heated bedrooms, a beauty parlor, library and sporting room, Kim was "ever pleased with everything," the KNCA report said.

"The completion of the home for the aged made it possible to realize another lifetime desire of the great leaders," the young leader said, referring to his late father and grandfather.

Kim also stressed that the country's welfare policy for the aged should be accomplished thoroughly and correctly through close attention to and looking after the elderly.

Kim was accompanied by his sister Yo-jung and party secretary O Su-yong, as well as party secretary Kim Ki-nam, North Korea's propaganda master who it was presumed had retired. (Yonhap)
