LS Cable & System said Wednesday that it won the contract for a $45 million underground cable project in Jurong, Singapore. The contract is a turn-key project which involves delivering cables to construction projects.

The company said that it has established itself as a main supplier in the electric cable business in Singapore, with 35 percent market share, through its Vietnamese branch LS-VINA.

LS-VINA, established in 1996, is the leading electrics company in Vietnam with over 30 percent of market shares.

LS Cable & System officials said they have been able to take on projects in Singapore because they have established trust with their quality of work in the past.

The company stated that cables are difficult to cross-sell unlike other industrial parts and depend on durability and safety, which has helped them gain an edge in the competition.

Electric cables are in high demand in Singapore, especially for extra high-voltage underground cables that do not require setting up a transmission tower. Extra high-voltage cables are more expensive, but able to transmit more electricity.
