Grieving families mourned Tuesday at the funerals of nine of the 16 people who plunged to their deaths while standing on a ventilation grill to get a better view of a pop concert.

The tragic accident took place at Pangyo Techno Valley, a multipurpose complex, in Seongnam, a city just south of Seoul, on Friday. It also left 11 others seriously injured.

Mourners gathered to pay tribute to their loved ones at separate funerals for nine of the 16 victims -- most of them in their 30s and 40s -- in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi Province Tuesday.

They include a couple in their late 40s with three children.

The couple's eldest son was spotted weeping while his two sisters were clutching their faces in their hands as they watched their parents' coffins.

The funerals for seven others were held on Monday, after the families of the victims reached an agreement with event organizers for compensation for the victims.

Police, meanwhile, said they have continued to examine computer hard drives, mobile phones and other documents seized during their search of the hosts and sponsors of the concert to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Some 700 people attended the concert where various South Korean musicians, including girl group 4Minute, performed, according to the host.  (Yonhap)
