공주사대부고, 유스호스텔 대표 해경에 고발

경찰은 지난 토요일 공주사대부고 학생 5명이 파도에 휩쓸려 숨진 사고와 관련해 유스호스텔 대표를 포함한 5명을 업무상 과실치사 혐의로 조사를 받았다고 태안경찰이 밝혔다.

유스호스텔 김(49) 대표는 서울에서 150km 떨어진 태안에서 200여명의 학생이 캠프에 참여했지만 참사가 일어나 업무상 과실치사 혐의를 받고 있다.

학생 5명의 시신은 모두 발견했고 물살이 거셌음에도 불구하고 강사의 지시로 바닷물에 들어간 것이라고 경찰조사를 통해 밝혀졌다.

하지만 관련 강사는 현장에서 체포되지 않았고 사건 이후 연락이 닿지 않았다.

관계자들에 의하면 지난 토요일 해병대 체험 사고 관련 업체인 여행사를 대상으로 압수수색을 버린 것으로 알려졌다.

한편, 유가족들은 책임자에 대한 강력한 처벌이 이행되고 수사 결과가 발표되기 이전에 장례절차를 밟지 않겠다고 말했다.

Teacher questioned on negligence charges over deaths of 5 students

Police questioned a high school teacher on Saturday on charges of negligence over the drowning deaths of his five students off the country's western beach, police officials said.

The 49-year-old teacher, surnamed Kim, is suspected of negligence while overseeing nearly 200 students attending a summer camp in Taean Beach, about 150 kilometers south of Seoul, according to the officials.

Bodies of the five students were found this week after they were swept away on Thursday by a strong current when they walked into the sea as ordered by camp instructors, according to the police. Still, the teacher was not physically detained by the police. He was not immediately reached for comment.

Also on Saturday, police raided the Seoul headquarters of a tour company that organized the three-day summer camp at the beach, according to the officials.

Meanwhile, bereaved family members called for punishment of those who are responsible for the accident and said they won't hold funeral ceremonies until the exact circumstance leading to the accident is determined. (Yonhap News)
