Police use location tracing system in rescuing man from suicide

Police tracked the location of the phone of a man who attempted suicide and saved his life on Sunday.

The man, who is in his 40s, drank pesticide at a fishing spot in Ansung, Gyeonggi province.

Before the suicide attempt, the man made a phone call to his sister and said “I’m sorry.” The sister dialed 112, the state’s emergency hotline, to ask for help.

Two officials from Ansung Provincial Police Agency traced the man’s location from his cell phone and found the man moaning with a pain and took him to a hospital.

경찰, 휴대전화 추적 자살기도자 생명 구해

경기도 안성경찰서는 휴대전화 위치추적을 통해 농약을 마시고 자살을 기도한 40대 남자를 구조했다고 29일 밝혔다.

경찰은 지난 27일 오전 10시39분께 112로 도움을 요청한 신고를 받고 곧바로 휴대전화 위치추적에 나서고 대덕파출소 소속 순찰차에 통보, 30여분만에 농약을 마시고 신음 중인 A(44)씨를 발견, 인근 병원으로 옮겨 생명을 구했다.

A씨는 자살기도 직전 여동생에게 전화를 걸어 '미안하다'고 말했으며, 여동생이 곧바로 112에 신고했다.

신고를 받고 출동한 대덕파출소 박성철ㆍ김승욱 경찰관은 휴대전화 위치추적 결과 고삼면 월향리 반경 800ｍ로 확인되자 신고자를 동승시켜 수색에 나서 고삼호수 인근 낚시터에서 농약을 마시고 쓰러져있는 A씨를 발견했다.
