Scott Wightman, British Ambassador to Korea, made his first visit to South Gyeongsang Province on Monday to promote the upcoming London Olympics and express his interest in South Gyeongsang-based corporations.

During his visit to the province, Wightman had a meeting with the province governor, Kim Doo-gwan, in the provincial government building in Changwon. He reportedly said British corporations have a lot to learn from Korean ones during the meeting. 

He promoted the upcoming London Olympics Games, which kick off in July, stressing that thousands of volunteers will be there to assist the foreign visitors. Many will find a lot of business and tourist opportunities aside from the Games, and a number of economy summits will be held during the Olympics season as well, he added.

Meanwhile, governor Kim asked for more British investment in South Gyeongsang-based shipbuilding businesses, stressing that Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has been recently awarded a contract to build four 37,000-ton tankers for the British Royal Navy. He also asked for more British attention in two upcoming events to be held in the province, the International Exhibition for the Korea Shipbuilding Marine Technology Industries, which is slated to be held in October, and the 2013 World Traditional Medicine Expo in Sancheong.
