Song Hye-kyo funds MoMA Korean guidebook

Actress Song Hye-kyo has fully funded the publication of a new Korean handbook for the Museum of Modern Art in New York, according to a Korea promotion expert.

Song, one of the most popular Korean actresses who also starred in U.S. indie-film “Fetish,” has decided to cover the cost for the production of a new guidebook to help Korean tourists who visit the world-renowned museum, Sungshin Women’s University professor Seo Kyoung-duk said.

Seo helped in creating the new booklet which has been on display since the beginning of this month.

Inside the booklet, which is provided to visitors for free, is information about the overall facilities and artworks at MoMA, Seo said.

The guidebook can also been downloaded at the museum’s website at www.moma.org.

Seo said he is also working on having Korean-language services at Britain’s Tate Modern, Germany’s Ludwig Contemporary Art Museum and other major museums around the world.

송혜교, 뉴욕미술관에 한국어 안내서 제공

한국홍보 전문가 서경덕 성신여대 객원교수와 영화배우 송혜교씨가 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA)에 새로운 한국어 안내서를 공급했다.

이 미술관은 지난 2007년부터 한국어 안내서와 한국어 음성 서비스도 제공하고 있으나 올해 1월부터 안내서를 새로 발간했다.

서 교수는 9일(현지시간) "한국어 안내서를 올해 1월 초부터 새로운 디자인으로 공급하기 시작했다. 새 안내서를 만드는데 한류스타 송혜교 씨가 전액 후원을 했다"고 전했다.

한국어 안내서에는 미술관의 전반적인 시설, 갤러리 소개, 카페, 기념품 가게 등의 정보가 들어있다. 미술관 로비와 각 층의 자원봉사 안내센터에서 무료로 받아 볼 수 있다.

뉴욕 현대미술관 홈페이지(www.moma.org)에서 한국어 안내서를 미리 다운로드 받아 활용할 수도 있다.

송혜교 측 관계자는 "중국, 대만 등 아시아에서도 활약하고 있는 송혜교 씨가 많은 해외활동을 통해 한국어 서비스의 중요성을 인식해 이번 현대미술관 후원을 결 정하게 됐다"고 말했다.

뉴욕 메트로폴리탄미술관과 현대미술관(MoMA), 미국 자연사박물관 등에 한국어 서비스를 이끌어낸 서 교수는 앞으로 영국의 테이트 모던, 독일 루드빅 미술관 등 유럽 내 유명 박물관과 미술관에도 한국어 서비스가 제공될 수 있도록 접촉중이다.
