A piece of Uruguay will be permanently displayed on Nami Island announced the embassy.



“The eye-catching exhibition by Carlos Palleiro will serve as a bridge and gift of culture and art from the antipodes situated in Uruguay to the people of Korea,” said Uruguay Ambassador Alba Florio.



To heighten the event, the embassy arranged for Palleiro to travel half way around the world to the occasion to present his works of art.



Nami Island’s CEO Kang Woo-hyon welcomed him by expressing his gratefulness on the cultural exchange with the Uruguayan artist.



Displayed are 29 animal illustrations on the island that borders Gyeonggi Province with Gangwon Province, some 75 kilometers northeast of Seoul.



The embassy explained that Palleiro is a distinguished graphic designer and artist recognized for his work in the most outstanding Latin American publishing companies.



“These mythical and playful-look animal illustrations created by Palleiro confirm the universality of art through their shapes and colors,” said Florio.



The prints on display were used as covers for his series of primary school children books for public education in Mexico.



The exhibition was suggested by Florio in 2011, based on the cooperation agreement for cultural exchange between Uruguay and Nami Island during the occasion of Uruguayan Day held during the island’s International Book Festival last year.
