Blackpink's Jennie drew attention Thursday for her surprise appearance at The Weeknd's concert and her fashion — a purple leopard-print bodysuit.
Jennie joined the Weeknd for their collab track "One of the Girls" on the second night of his "After Hours Til Dawn Tour" in Korea. An Instagram post she shared Saturday revealed more details of the sheer purple bodysuit, reportedly from Alaia's 1991 fall-winter collection.
Purple has gained traction in Korea's fashion and beauty markets under the trend nicknamed "purple-core," or "grape-core." Looks encompass a broad selection of shades spanning pale lavender to deep plum, burgundy and wine.
Online fashion platform Zigzag said Saturday that transactions for products tagged with purple-core rose 173 percent in September from a year earlier.
The shift follows other seasonal color trends: mint green in spring and lemon yellow in the summer.
Purple offers a wide range of styling options: different shades can be incorporated into muted, everyday outfits, while bolder combinations are great for color-blocking.
Fashion brands are pairing the color with olive, light blue, yellow, brown and gray, expanding the palette beyond the brown and beige tones that dominated Korea's fall wardrobes in recent years.
Knitwear, deep V-necks in particular, has emerged as a notable category within the trend as the air gets cold. Searches for "purple knit" surged 2,247 percent in September from the previous month, according to Zigzag.
The trend is extends to beauty products and accessories, including makeup, nail designs and other daily accessories.
In makeup, lavender-toned color correctors and blushes are used to neutralize unwanted yellow tones or add a cooler finish. Korean cosmetics brands including Fwee and Hera, as well as global brands Nars, Prada Beauty and Mac, have all hopped on the purple trend.
Purple eye makeup is another take, as seen in recent looks sported by Sunmi and Le Sserafim's Chaewon. This comes alongside the growing popularity of "eye-maxxing," the trend that favors bold, attention-drawing eye looks.
